A nice package popped through the box, and surprise, it was my new Joepresso, presented in a square box with the following contents; thanks to Roman Rabinovich, the Designer of this product:
The contents are simple enough to understand; the quality of the red adaptor is solid and not flimsy; the 51mm Pressurized filter basket is what helps you obtain a trouble free espresso brew with a fine torrent of froth (not thick crema) to boot! The white rubber gasket helps to create a water tight seal between the aeropress and filter so there's no leak as you plunge downward!
The shower screen doubles as a tamper incase you're wondering what the nut/neck was for in the middle of the shower screen; you could use it for your vacuum coffee maker if you have a chain!
The User Guide is straight forward to understand, and easy enough to tweak the process to your hearts desire!
Always try and use freshly roasted coffee; given at least 4 days to rest before grinding!
What you need:
Accurate Scales
14.5g grounds (double shot)
60ml out
My brew method:
fill your basket, and tamp gently with the shower screen, then put in the shower screen, and then the gasket, and screw onto your aeropress, then preheat and preinfuse the filter basket which is now attached to the aeropress by placing it into a small cup of boiling water for 30 seconds, then position the aeropress over your mug, and fill to the 3 mark on your aeropress, and put the plunger in, and plunge until 60ml is in your mug using the scales for the best result.
In Conclusion:
I found the Red adaptor very solid, and can see no issue in it lasting a long time giving the pressure it'll be under, but the metal shower screen; which also acts as a tamper, should help to evenly disperse water over the bed of grounds, but it's a tad lightweight for the basket, and not weighty enough to retain the grounds in the basket; needs to be more of a tighter fit to be effective, as it causes the grounds to rise out over the shower screen, and up into the aeropress as you pour in the water; improvement required!
As for espresso with crema? Near, but not so!
The pressurized basket does provide you with that extra boost to think you're getting an espresso with crema with all that effort, but when the dust settles, it's more a glorified strong, but tasty, cup of joe, with an ever so fine film of 'crema' after a period of rest!
